I ♥ Monday
♥ WITHER by Lauren DeStefano. I was lucky enough to get an ARC in the mail, and it’s one of my favorite books of the year–definitely my favorite dystopian read. Perfectly bittersweet and haunting, and there’s a tremendously likable, smart heroine and a world I can’t wait to read more about. Also, you know how it seems like there’s an epidemic of strange names in books? Rhine’s name has meaning! I will gush about this more when it comes out in March. Also, how freaking gorgeous is that cover?
♥ Cardamom cookies. They are so easy and so yummy. Like sugar cookies with a dash of chai. If you’re trying out the recipe–and you should, seriously–I sub a little milk for the cream of tartar, which I never have on hand, and that seems to work nicely.
♥ My friends. Seriously, I am so blessed to have them, old and new. Here’s a pic from our holiday extravaganza.
♥ Liz Phair. Steve and I saw her at the 9:30 Club on Friday night and it was so fun. She played a lot of old stuff from Exile in Guyville and she rocked it. I say I’m not a big concert person, but I love live music, and I think what I mean is that I don’t like huge concert venues like the Verizon Center or Constitution Hall. I love the intimacy of venues like the 9:30 Club, where we’ve seen her and Amanda Palmer and Blue October and all of my favorite concerts, basically. Here, this is my favorite song of hers.
♥ This
fantastic little notebook, a gift from my friend Liz. Go on, look. The whole Etsy shop is very dangerous for writers. I covet the pink Party Girl one (yeah, shocker, I know). A writer can never have too many notebooks, though, right? And these are just in time for my 2011 resolution to start journaling more regularly.♥ The mail. Three of my presents were from the same Etsy seller, and they were mailed from Singapore back at the beginning of December, and they finally arrived today! Hooray! Also, how fun is it to get Christmas cards and letters instead of just bills and junk mail? I’m so excited when I hear the "thump" of the mailman dropping mail through our chute this time of year.
What are you loving today?
