Remembering
Today’s my grandmother’s birthday. She would have been 84. She’s been gone for almost four years, and I still miss her. Still think of her when something wonderful happens and wish for her guidance when I’m upset. Our relationship was sweet, easy, untangled by the expectations between mothers and daughters. BORN WICKED is dedicated to her, and I know she would have been over-the-moon excited about all of the things that have happened to me in the last year. It comforts me to think that she knows anyway, that she is still cheering for me.
Here’s a picture of her in high school. Wasn’t she pretty?
And with my grandfather at the lake in 1949. I love her swimsuit! (My grandpa was a former WWII Marine, a teacher, a football coach, and a lifeguard in the summers. He was kind of buff!)
And one of her as I knew her, with me and my sister Amber on the right. (How cute is Am?)
Your Grandma sounds and looks like a wonderful woman!!! and you look pretty cute as child too.. haha
Happy Birthday to your grandma!
Thanks so much, Lena! My grandma was fantastic!
wonderful…don't even know what else to say just such a beautiful remembrance…
Thank you! *hugs*
Jess, your grandparents were smokin'. And I can't help but think of how your grandfather repeatedly told you how much he loved your grandmother's legs! 🙂
I know, right? You can totally see why in the swimsuit picture! He was pretty buff himself, no?
I want to give you a BIG hug, Jess. My Nana passed away seven years ago (my Papa almost 30 days after her) and I can't believe we've been without her that long. She was THE sweetest, most loving, most generous woman I have ever known and I miss her every single day. I know I'm not perfect, but I hope I make her proud.
*hugs* The best thing about grandparents is they never expect you to be perfect, just YOU. I know your nana is proud of you!
Beautiful remembrance 🙂 My Grandma was and is a huge inspiration to me–I keep a photo of her (with her awesome 1920s bob 🙂 ) on my writing desk. And I have a really similar swimsuit photo of her and my grandfather–only from 1929 instead of 49. The swimsuits were still fab 🙂
That's awesome, Rowenna! Grandmas are the best. I bet yours is so cute in her 20s bob!
