Class of 2012 YA Superlative Blogfest: Day 4 – Best in Show

I’m back with the lists! Thanks to Jessica Love, Tracey Neithercott, Alison Miller, and Katy Upperman for coming up with such a fun end-of-year blogfest!

Favorite Cover:  THE SPRINGSWEET (the story is pretty awesome, too!)

Cutest Couple: Travis & Harper in SOMETHING LIKE NORMAL (the sea turtle scene!)

Most Likely to Make You Miss Your Bedtime:

ALTERED or PRODIGY (technically both Jan 2013, but…)

Best Repeat Performance (sequel or follow up): BITTERBLUE

Favorite Finale or End of Series Novel: BLOODROSE (brutal + awesome)

Romance Most Worthy of an Ice Bath: Noah & Echo in PUSHING THE LIMITS

Best Old-Timer (published before 2012): GRACELING (I rarely reread, but this book! <3)

Most Likely to Make a Grown Man Cry: SEND ME A SIGN

Most Pleasant Surprise: THE VICIOUS DEEP

(mermaids? But these mermaids are creepy and funny and awesome!)

Most Creative Use of a Love Triangle: STEALING PARKER

(it’s more of a love quadrangle, really? And it’s SO well done)

Favorite Outlier:  Middle-grade: THE CAVENDISH HOME FOR BOYS & GIRLS

Pick your own category: favorite self-published book! TORCHED

What about you? What would some of your choices be?

I loved BITTERBLUE as a follow-up to GRACELING – great choice! And sadly, I have not read any self-pubbed manuscripts, but i do love that you chose that for your superlative! Have a wonderful holiday!

  2. Some of the books you've listed are ones that I've been meaning to read for a while now. (Not to mention, your lovely book. :D) TORCHED is actually sitting on my Kindle right now. Christmas is the perfect time to get tons of reading done, so I'm lucky I have so many great reads waiting for me. 🙂

I picked GRACELING as the best book published before 2012 that I read this year. I thoroughly enjoyed it and FIRE, but not really BITTERBLUE so much. I sincerely hope that Kristin Cashore writes more in this world, kind of like Tamora Pierce did with hers.

    1. Thanks so much! I hope if you read BORN WICKED you'll enjoy it! I'm hoping to read lots over Christmas break too, though I've also got to keep up with my wordcount for book 3!

I'd love to read more books in the GRACELING world. Maybe one where Bitterblue & Giddon go through the tunnels to visit Fire?

I've only read a few of your picks–must sort this out, haha! Ahh, Travis and Harper are the cutest, can't believe I forgot them!

    1. I love how forgiving Harper was and how she helps Travis through everything! Admittedly he has some issues and grieving to work through in the present but I think he has the potential to be an awesome bf!

  4. Well, TORCHED has inspired this category twice today, so clearly I'll have to give it a shot! And we agree on CAVENDISH–so creepy and awesome. I can't wait to get my hands on PRODIGY–I loved the ending of LEGEND and can't wait to see what comes next!

    1. Thanks for dreaming this up – it's been so much fun. I love making lists!

I really enjoyed THE SPRINGSWEET – even more than THE VESPERTINE, I think! Saundra's got such an evocative way with settings.

  5. SPRINGSWEET is an awesome book – you're absolutely right: it's a pretty amazing story, too. 😉 While I wasn't a fan of SCARLET as a story, I do absolutely adore the cover.
