2012 Reading Stats

Are you all tired of best of lists and reading statistics yet? I hope not, because here are mine for 2012:

Reading goal for 2012: 100

Books actually read: 79 (still better than 2011’s 61 – but I will do better in 2013!) – the full list is here

Books read on e-reader: 23 (15 e-galleys; 8 I bought) (29%) (about the same as last year)

Books authored by men: er…1 (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS)

Ms I beta-read: 1 (THINGS I CAN’T FORGET by Miranda Kenneally) – but I’d love to be a better & more frequent CP in 2013!

Apocalypsies’ debuts: 31 (39%)

Books I read in ARC or e-galley form: 47 (59%) (a combination of ARCs from Penguin and Netgalley and the Apocs ARC tour)

Of those ARCs, books I subsequently bought, or intend to buy when they come out: 23 (49% of the 47)

YA/MG/other: 55 YA / 6 MG / 8 Lois Duncans / 1 Agatha Christie / 1 Anne Lamott / 8 historical romances

5-star reads: 18 (23%)

Other Books I Really Liked: 27 (34%)

Not Adding to My Bookshelf: 34 (43%)

and of those, Books I Kind of Hated: 4 (5%)

I think I’m getting more critical of the YA I read, alas, which is why this fall I stopped reading YA for awhile and read a ton of old Lois Duncan books and Regency romances!

My reading goals for 2013 are to make more time for reading (and, um, Pinterest doesn’t count) – and not feel guilty putting down a book if it’s just not working for me! What about you? What were your 2012 reading highlights & discoveries?

I laughed so loudly at the fact you've only read one book authored by a man! But but but, why isn't it on your Top Reads? 🙁 🙁 I would have put it as number 1! Haha, I guess we have different tastes, but I still love your writing!

    1. Thanks, Karen! I really liked TFIOS – it's gorgeous – but it's a hard book for me to recommend and not one I think I'll reread, because it's just SO SAD. I'm more of a happily ever after girl!

  2. Amy Butler Greenfield

So great to see Chantress on your list! Can't wait to read your other recommended 2013 reads, too – and Star Cursed, of course! 🙂

  3. Happy new year! I’m very impressed by the amount you read this year. I don’t think I even managed half that. 2012 was a bad reading year for me but I’ve just read three novels over the past week, so I’m hoping I’m back in my reading groove now and that 2013 will be a better reading year. This year, my favourite reads were Heist Society by Ally Carter, The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda and Breathe by Sarah Crossan, but I look forward to checking out your recommended reads!

  4. I actually read far more good books this year than I was originally anticipating. My "best books of 2012" is extremely long, but some of the top ones were "Ripper" by Stefan Petrucha, "The Raven Boys" by Maggie Stiefvater, "The Dark Unwinding" by Sharon Cameron, and "Keeping the Castle" by Patrice Kindl. I'm hoping 2013 will be just as good.
