Thrice Interview + Giveaway: THE WIG IN THE WINDOW

Hi! Today we are belatedly celebrating the release of Kristen Kittscher’s MG mystery, THE WIG IN THE WINDOW – which came out last Tuesday, the same day as STAR CURSED!

They say:

the wig in the windowFans of the humor and clever clues in the Sammy Keyes books will enjoy THE WIG IN THE WINDOW, first in Kristen Kittscher’s funny middle-grade mystery series.

Best friends and seventh graders Sophie Young and Grace Yang have made a game out of spying on their neighbors. On one of their midnight stakeouts, they witness a terrifying, bloody scene at the home of their bizarre middle-school counselor Dr. Charlotte Agford (also known as Dr. Awkward).

At least, they think they do. The truth is that Dr. Agford was only making her famous pickled beets. But when Dr. Agford begins acting even weirder than usual, Sophie and Grace become convinced that she’s hiding something—and they’re determined to find out what it is.

This book is funny, realistic, and suspenseful —a pitch-perfect mystery for the tween set. — Kate Messner

Sophie’s first-person narration rings true and makes the growing peril feel ominously real…Reminiscent of the ever-compelling film Rear Window, this appealing and often spine-tingling tale will leave its audience wishing for more. – Kirkus Reviews

I say: I haven’t had a chance to read this yet, but it sounds awesome and hilarious! And earning that kind of praise from Kirkus isn’t easy!

Now for our interview with Kristen:

1. Describe your main character in 3 adjectives + a noun.

Sophie Young is a funny, quick-thinking, seventh grade spy.

2. Describe your book in 3 adjectives + a noun.

Oh! This is difficult! I’ll take the one the marketing folks came up with: a smart, funny, middle grade mystery.

3. Describe yourself in 3 adjectives + a noun.

A brilliant, charismatic, extremely modest genius. (JS: Ha!)

4. If you could travel to any 3 countries, what would they be?

Palau, Tulvalu, and Nauru. Wouldn’t it be fun to do a tour of the world’s smallest countries? (JS: *searches map*)

5. If you could take any 3 non-writing-related classes, what would they be?

I’d take three different art history classes covering different periods.

6. If you could have any 3 alternate careers, what would they be?

Independently wealthy retiree and philanthropist, park ranger, mail carrier (I like mail!)

7. What are your 3 favorite flowers?

Oh dear. I think I only have one. I like irises.

8. What are your 3 favorite foods?

Scrambled eggs, spaghetti, risotto (JS: I love risotto! And mail! Let’s be friends.)

9. What are your 3 favorite books?

REBECCA, THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE, THE GREAT GATSBY
