GREAT OR NOTHING Cover Reveal

I’m so, so excited to announce that my next book has a cover! And cover copy! And a release date! A reimagining of LITTLE WOMEN set in the fall of 1942, when the United States is suddenly embroiled in the second World War, this story, told from each March sister’s point of view, is one of grief, love, and self-discovery. In the spring of 1942, the United States is reeling from the attack on Pearl Harbor. While the US starts sending troops to the front, the March family of Concord, Massachusetts grieves their own enormous loss: the death of their daughter, Beth. Under the strain of their grief, Beth’s remaining sisters fracture, each going their own way with Jo nursing her wounds and building planes in Connecticut, Meg holding down the home front with Marmee, and Amy living a secret life as a Red Cross volunteer in London – the...

New Book Deal: GREAT OR NOTHING

*dusts off poor, neglected news section* I have news! My ninth book was announced this week! I’m super excited to collaborate with three other amazing women on this project: Joy McCullough, author of the the incredible, National Book Award-longlisted BLOOD WATER PAINT; Caroline Tung Richmond, author of several brilliant historical YAs, co-editor of the food-based anthology HUNGRY HEARTS, and a friend of almost ten years now; and Tess Sharpe, author of the beautiful YA thriller FAR FROM YOU and my TOIL & TROUBLE co-editor. If you’re wondering who’s writing which March sister, here’s a graphic Joy made: The book sold on proposal and is still being written – it’s due in September – so I can’t say much yet. But I’m so excited to reimagine Meg. I stan a bossy older sister. And sisterhood is a recurring theme in my work, and LITTLE WOMEN is a foundational text for me,...

THE RADICAL ELEMENT cover

The cover for my next anthology, THE RADICAL ELEMENT, was recently revealed on the USA Today blog and I wanted to share it here as well: I love that it’s a deep rose pink. Pink is my favorite color, and the cover very nearly matches my newly dyed pink hair, which you can see on my Instagram! I love the silhouette girl and the way her hair blows forward in the wind. And I love the four corner images, which represent the breadth of the anthology so well: Erin Bowman’s cross-dressing, poker-playing stevedore in her Old West story, “The Magicians”; Anna-Marie McLemore’s ambitious, magical Latina actress in her story of 1920s Hollywood, “Glamour”; Sara Farizan’s Iranian immigrant 80s punk rocker from her story, “Take Me With U”; and my own high-wire walker, Ruby, from my circus story set in 1905 Tulsa, “Step Right Up.” The book will be released on March...

TOIL & TROUBLE

I have been super remiss in not announcing this here sooner, but I’ve got new book news! Tess Sharpe (author of the brilliant YA thriller FAR FROM YOU) and I will be co-editing a new anthology all about troublemaking witches! Those of who you’ve read the Cahill Witch Chronicles know this is a theme very dear to my heart, and I’m so excited. I love organizing and editing anthologies, too, and I am so thrilled and grateful to get a chance to do this again and to collaborate with Tess this time! Check out the deal announcement and our list of amazing contributors below, and stay tuned for more info. Tess and I have just finished editing the first drafts, and I can promise this is going to be an amazing collection.
