TYRANNY Blog Tour Links + Updates

Hi! I’m at the NYC Teen Author Fest this weekend, soaking up inspiration and catching up with writer friends. Tonight I’ll be doing a panel — An Evening of Treachery — with Lindsay Smith, Andrea Cremer, Sharon Cameron, Lisa Maxwell, and Melissa Grey at McNally Jackson at 7pm. We’ll be talking about treacherous women throughout history! I’m so excited. And tomorrow I’ll be part of the huge signing at Books of Wonder at 1:30pm. You can check out the whole NYCTAF schedule here. And here are a bunch of posts around the interwebs where you can read more about TYRANNY (and enter to win some giveaways!): * Q&A with contributing authors Katherine Longshore, Kekla Magoon, & Marie Lu at Teacher Mentor Texts    * Q&A with me and contributing authors Leslye Walton and Elizabeth Wein at YA Love Blog    * Love shoes? TYRANNY Tomorrow!

A TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS comes out tomorrow!!! There were early copies for sale at the NoVA Teen Book Fest yesterday and it was so exciting to see readers carrying copies of it around. I did two breakout sessions with contributing authors Caroline Richmond, Robin Talley, and Lindsay Smith, and it was so fun to finally get to talk about the book! Both of our sessions were packed! Here’s a picture from our panel: If you missed it, you should come see the four of us on Friday night at 7p for the official TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS launch party! We’ll have a panel and signing (and maybe cake) at One More Page Books in Arlington, VA. I’ll also be at Politics & Prose in Washington, DC at 7p with another fabulous lineup of authors, including contributing author Andrea Cremer! Our TYRANNY blog tour kicked off this week: March 1 – a...

#BadassHistory Party

Hi! I’m trying something new – on Sunday, March 6 I’ll be doing a virtual launch party. March 8 is an amazing day for historical fiction – it’s the release day for A TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS and for Meg Medina’s BURN BABY BURN, Cat Winters’ THE STEEP & THORNY WAY, and Sharon Biggs Waller’s THE FORBIDDEN ORCHID. To celebrate, the four of us will be doing a Google Hangout where we’ll be chatting about our books and answering questions live. If you submit questions for us to answer before the event with the #BadassHistory hashtag on Twitter, you’ll be entered to win one of 2 prize backs containing all 4 books. And if you can’t make the live Hangout, you can always watch it later.   In other fun news, TYRANNY is on this list of Epic Reads’ 17 Most Anticipated YA Books to Read in March. Thanks, Epic Reads! We’re...

Praise for WILD SWANS

Hi! I am super excited to share some great news for WILD SWANS: First, every author I know is a little trepidatious about Kirkus. Their reviews are anonymous and they can be very critical. So imagine my delight when I get an email from my publicist last week that WILD SWANS had gotten its first trade review — and it was a starred review — from Kirkus! They said: ★ Ivy’s journey is handled perfectly, and it’s her story at heart. For anyone who suffers from too-heavy expectations, Ivy will ring true in this engaging, nearly flawless coming-of-age novel.  Nearly flawless! You guys, Kirkus is kind of renowned for finding flaws. I was so happy and relieved that I literally cried in the coffee shop. (You can read the whole review here, if you’re interested.) And as if that isn’t happy-making enough, we’ve also received two very kind blurbs. (For those...

A TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS Pre-Order Campaign

Hi! I have shared this on all my social medias but wanted to be sure to share it here, too: We’re offering a really special pre-order campaign for A TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS. If you pre-order it from my awesome, incredibly supportive local independent bookstore, One More Page Books, you can get a copy signed by me and three of the contributing authors: Lindsay Smith (DREAMSTRIDER), Robin Talley (WHAT WE LEFT BEHIND), and Caroline Richmond (THE ONLY THING TO FEAR). And if you’re one of the first 50 people to pre-order, you can get Simini Blocker’s gorgeous illustration. Isn’t it gorgeous?! My character is the one from 1826 with the tignon and the sweet smile, but I love all 15 of them. This art is so, so special to me; it captures all of our diverse, badass heroines beautifully. I am totally going to frame one for my office! Here’s the...
