Thrice Interview: ALIENATED

Hi!  Today we’re celebrating Melissa Landers’  debut, ALIENATED, which came out last week! Before we start — why are they called Thrice interviews? The original titles for the Cahill Witch Chronicles were THRICE BLESSED, THRICE CURSED, and THRICE FATED. I have a tattoo with the word thrice, which is partly to remind me how joyful writing that first book was, back when it was just mine, and partly because I like threes. Cate Cahill is the oldest of three sisters, as am I. My birthday is May 3; my anniversary is Sept 30. So there’s a natural theme to these interview questions… They say: Interplanetary relations have never been more exciting! The first in a funny, romantic YA sci-fi series. Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them. Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara...

Foreign Rights Update

The UK edition of STAR CURSED came out last week! Razorbill UK has created a lovely paperback edition. It makes me excited for the US paperback release (April 10). Here are some shots of my UK author copies: And BORN WICKED came out last month in Brazil. My awesome Brazilian publisher – Editora Sextante / Editora Arqueiro – sent me these pictures that bloggers had posted online when they received their swag. I love the witchy hats! How cute is that dog? I also recently found the cover for the French edition of STAR CURSED – SOEURS SORCIERES, LIVRE 2. Isn’t it pretty? It’s incredible that readers are discovering Cate and Maura and Tess and Finn in countries I’ve never been. I’m very grateful for all of my international readers!

Cate Cahill is the oldest of three sisters, as am I. My birthday is May 3; my anniversary is Sept 30. So there’s a natural theme to these interview questions… They say: First daughter Audrey Rhodes re-creates Alice Roosevelt’s infamous antics in this fun, smart middle-grade debut. Year of Consistency – Week 4/January Check-in

Hi! I’ve decided to move these check-ins to Mondays, since that’s the start of my week for exercise/diet stuff and it makes more sense for accountability… HAPPY FEBRUARY! It’s a shiny new month! What are you hoping to accomplish? Here’s my end-of-January check-in: Writing: A week ago I sent my full six-page synopsis for IVY to Agent Jim. Historically I’m not an outliner, I’ve just created a loose spine with maybe a dozen plot points, but a synopsis requires a lot more outlining. The Playwright was an enormous help with that. I broke the plot down into four major threads — the ghost, the literary mystery, effed up family drama, and romance – and then tried to write out 10 plot points for each. Then I threaded them together. A synopsis  requires a lot of thinking about how the plot points relate to one another – if this happens, how...

So there’s a natural theme to these interview questions… They say: For fans of Stephanie Perkins, Sarah Mlynowski, and Maureen Johnson comes a sexy, poignant, funny, and authentic debut novel by Robin Constantine about the journeys of two New Jersey teens as they discover who they really are–and find their way to each other. Wren...
