Linky Roundup

Where is my snow? *makes disappointed face* We were supposed to get 6-12″ today and DC shut down for what amounted instead to a day of rain. Boo! Stupid global warming. I have a few links for you today: 1. Are you a writer wondering if your story’s working? (Aren’t we all.) My friend and fabulous critique partner Kathleen Foucart has a critique service, and she’s running an awesome contest! If you spread the word on Facebook or twitter or anywhere, really, you will win a FREE crit of the first 500 words of your ms. And you could also win a submission-package critique or a first-chapter critique! Check out her contest post for more details. Katie’s fabulous at asking insightful questions, especially about character motivations or world-building. Even if I don’t answer her questions in the text, it always helps my develop my story more fully. 2. How do you name your...

STAR CURSED Review Copies & Swag

Hi! Guess what? It’s less than 4 months now ’til STAR CURSED comes out (June 18)! Eeep! I am getting SO excited to share it with you. You know, in that nervous, slightly vomity, OMG-I-hope-you-love-it kind of way. I’m going to be doing a contest every month, starting March 14 (Cate’s birthday), leading up to publication. Some of them will include other really exciting ARCs and special prizes like signed Breathless Reads posters or jewelry! I am starting to get some requests for review copies, so I thought I’d clarify: I love bloggers, booksellers, librarians, and passionate readers of all kinds! I am delighted when anyone wants to read my books. But I don’t send out ARCs directly. For that, you need to contact my publisher, Penguin Teen, and they have a very helpful Tumblr post on how to do that. You can currently request STAR CURSED by filling out this...

Entering the Deadline Cave

Hi! Happy March! I am SO HAPPY that February is over. I mean, it was not all bad: I had a cramazing time on Breathless Reads. I got to celebrate the UK release of BORN WICKED and its one-year anniversary in the US (and my two-year bookdealiversary!). And this week The Playwright got exciting news regarding two upcoming productions and one possible productions, which makes me super-proud (and which I will announce as soon as I’m allowed!). But February was also WAY stressful. I was traveling for 9 days out of 28. Our house got broken into. (We were not at home, Monkey was fine, my laptop was fine, but the thieves stole The Playwright’s laptop and iPad. And a little bit of my sense of security.) My father-in-law is in the hospital for the second time this month. I started teaching a new class and tried to figure out how...

Breathless Reads Recap

The tour was amazing! It was wonderful to meet readers and booksellers! Now that I’ve gotten (mostly) past my stage fright, I felt so much more comfortable at our events. It was wonderful to see Beth again and meet Fiona, Liz, and Morgan. In addition to the six bookstore signings and the Faze Magazine concert, we also did four school visits. We hit seven cities in seven days. It was exhausting but totally, totally worth it to talk about books all week! THANK YOU to Penguin for sending us out, the bookstores and librarians who hosted us, and all of the readers and bloggers who came to see us! And now I’m back home with The Playwright and Monkey, and things may be a little quiet around here for the next few weeks. I’m on deadline for the first draft of Cahill Book 3 and I’ve still got lots to...
