New Site Contest

To celebrate my pretty new website and blog (designed by the lovely Madeira James), I thought I’d have a contest. Would you like to win one of these?

(I hope the answer is yes.)

Super-easy this time: all you have to do is leave a comment below. But I’ll love you a little extra if you RT the contest on twitter or Facebook. The contest is open internationally until Friday at noon.

Also, a word on readers & reviews:

If you are one of the almost 1500 people who’ve added BORN WICKED to-read on Goodreads, thank you! It makes me really happy! I love seeing what other people are reading and what they liked–and didn’t like, too. From a reader’s perspective I find Goodreads amazing, but I only keep track of my 4 and 5 star reads to avoid potential writer-colleague awkwardness. You can find the full list of what I’m reading this year here. I am hideously behind on my goal of reading 100 books this year. Out of the 42 books I’ve read so far, I’ve loved 12 and really enjoyed 8 more. The rest were a mix of not for me or fun reads that didn’t really stick with me.

From an author’s perspective, it is terrifying that ARCs will now be making their way into the world. My parents are going to be reading my book soon. My non-writing friends. My junior-year high school English teacher. Maybe you. It’s really very nervous-making, because of course I love Cate and her sisters and I want you to love them too. But I’m trying to keep in mind that BW will not be everyone’s cup of tea. Did you see how cavalier I was up there, all, some books are just not for me? Ouch. But it’s true. I mean, there are people out there who don’t love NORTHANGER ABBEY or ANNE OF THE ISLAND. Or FIRE or THE DISREPUTABLE HISTORY OF FRANKIE LANDAU-BANKS. (What is wrong with you people?) My friends and I disagree on books all the time. Sometimes I lend them books and their reaction is”meh,” and I am sad. We have had some disagreements about, say, WITHER, or THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH. Passionate opinions are part of being a reader, and I want readers to have passionate opinions about my books. I will not be commenting on reviews, good or bad, but I will totally respond to blog comments, emails, and @ replies on Twitter though. Assuming you’re not a crazy spambot.

(Random aside: A babysitter once tried to force me to eat spam. I threw up on her.)

Anyway. Um. What do you think of the new site? What’s the last book you read that you really loved?

  1. Congratulations Jess! The site is absolutely GORGEOUS! You've definately raised the bar for YA author websites. 🙂

(And of course I want to win one! BORN WICKED is one of the most desired ARCs right now for the writing peeps I've talked to! But I'll also be happy to just see and pet one of the pretties next month!)

So excited about the book. I heard about it through Stephanie Wooten. She is my roommate. I'm the one who stole the sticker.

  4. I would absolutely love to win an ARC or Born Wicked! I added it on Goodreads a few months ago and I can't wait!

    I tweeted as well!!

Also, your new website is gorgeous! It matches Born Wicked's cover beautifully with the flowers!
