Petticoats & Pistols

The news is out!

From Publisher’s Marketplace today:

Jessica Spotswood’s PETTICOATS & PISTOLS, an anthology of new short fiction bringing history to life from the viewpoints of strong, clever, resourceful American girls, edited by Spotswood and including stories by Elizabeth Wein, Beth Revis, Marie Lu, and Andrea Cremer among many others, to Hilary Van Dusen at Candlewick, by Jim McCarthy at Dystel & Goderich Literary Management (World English).

I’m SO excited about this. We’re still working out the final two contributors, but so far we’ll have stories by:

Jillian Anderson Coats
Andrea Cremer
Robin LaFevers
Katherine Longshore
Marie Lu
Marissa Meyer
Saundra Mitchell
Beth Revis
Caroline Richmond
Lindsay Smith
Robin Talley
Elizabeth Wein
Kekla Magoon
Y.S. Lee
and me!

I feel incredibly lucky to be working with so many talented authors. We have an amazing mix of debuts and established historical writers, plus bestsellers like Beth, Marie, and Marissa, who are trying their hands at historical for the first time (and are going to rock it, I have no doubt!).

The idea struck me about two months ago, when I was asking April Tucholke about her SLASHER GIRLS & MONSTER BOYS anthology and she suggested I should put one together too. I do love editing, and I thought, ooh, I’d love to create an anthology featuring realistic historical and historical fantasy stories. I’m incredibly passionate about stories by and about women – so our theme was a natural fit. I brought the idea up when I was on a retreat with Andrea, Beth, and Marie, and they were all immediately excited and volunteered to write for me – so how could I NOT pursue it?

And Candlewick is going to be an amazing home for the anthology. I’m really thrilled to be working with Hilary and moving forward with this!
