I’m currently working on a new project that I’m super excited about, and I’m hoping to have more news to share soon. In the meantime, the best place to find and connect with me online is Instagram.

Guilty as Charged

I’ve been listening to Christmas music all afternoon (Sarah McLachlachlan’s lovely Wintersong album). It’s got me in a festive spirit. But I’m supposed to buy gifts for other people, not me! But I have so many holiday parties coming up! I just could not resist these.

December

December is one of my favorite months. I hate the cold and the dark, but the anticipation? The sensuousness? All the scarlet and crimson and cranberry? Champagne cocktails, shopping, baking, parties every weekend. Cranberry bliss bars and peppermint hot chocolate. Candy canes, for that matter. Wrapping gifts while singing along to Rent. Looking for that exact, perfect present. Writing out holiday cards with my gold pen and festive stamps. Decorating the tree. Hosting our Christmas extravaganza. I love all of it. And yet…December gets so stressful. All of those parties, all of those to-do’s forming a long list. I start worrying about money and cleaning and finding the exact, perfect presents and all those extra calories and I have no time to myself and– I don’t want to be like that this year. I promised Steve that if we could have two holiday parties (Christmas and New Year’s Eve) I would be really, really zen about...

Thanksgiving

I meant to post this yesterday, but then I fell into a tryptophan coma.  Seriously, I went to bed at like 9:30. That’s what happens when you have not one, not two, but three Thanksgiving dinners. * my mom’s Bavarian Berry tea * sleeping under my soft blue college comforter in my old canopy bed * three fabulous Thanksgiving dinners, the culinary highlights of which were, respectively: * herbed sweet potato gratin with Gruyere, baked mac and cheese, and a zucchini casserole * debating favorite pies with friends (mine is blackberry, closely followed by cherry crumb) * the four fuzzy kittens on the front porch * my dad and Uncle Mike’s goofy dances as they competed on the Wii * my stoic grandfather’s mischevious stories from his boyhood * texting Steve throughout the day * Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead (fabulous world-building, super-suspenseful plot) * Steve agreeing to host a New Year’s Eve...

The Positive

I am so, so proud of my brilliant husband! His MFA playwriting thesis, Miranda Is Morning, had its five performances this weekend. They had great, enthusiastic crowds and garnered very positive feedback. I hadn’t read the latest drafts and was so impressed with how Miranda evolved over the last five weeks of rehearsal. This is perhaps his most imaginative play to date; it borrows from magical realism and offers up a drag cabaret show, a roadhouse dance number, and a seriously creeptastic circus of the dead. In addition to all that Spectacle,  the troubled mother-daughter relationship at the heart of the show developed into a very moving arc. Here, let me give you a synopsis (in his words): "Miranda just buried Helen, her mother.  Helen has other ideas…To put to rest the less-than-peaceful spirit of her mother, Miranda agrees to undertake a road trip that will take her across the country and the all-too-thin line between the past...
