I’m currently working on a new project that I’m super excited about, and I’m hoping to have more news to share soon. In the meantime, the best place to find and connect with me online is Instagram.

2011 in Review & 2012 Goals

2011 has been an incredible year. It changed my life in ways big and small. I got a book deal. I became a full-time writer. I was able to pay off all my student loan and credit card debt. I worked hard on revising BORN WICKED, learning so much in the process about my writing strengths and weaknesses, and ended up with a book I am so proud of. I got a gorgeous book cover (which I got to see on the Penguin Books for Young Readers catalogue cover too) and read wonderful early reviews and saw my book trailer and found out I’m going on tour with some amazing authors. I wrote a draft of the sequel. I traveled more this year than in the last several years put together. I went to SCBWI New York and on three writing retreats (to Branson, Key Largo, and a lovely cabin...

Magic

Here’s another still from the BORN WICKED trailer — a bit of accidental magic.         How’s Cate going to cope with that, when the man she’s been kissing isn’t supposed to know she’s a witch? Hope you all have a safe and awesome New Year’s Eve! I’m so excited (and a little bit terrified) for 2012. I can’t believe it’s only 5 weeks til BORN WICKED releases — and I can’t wait to share things like the full trailer and my cramazing tour schedule with you all!

12 Most Anticipated 2012 Reads

Today I want to highlight some 2012 books I’ve been lucky enough to read early. UNDER THE NEVER SKY by Veronica Rossi (releases Jan. 3). A swoony romance with dual points of view and fantastic dystopian world-building. I loved reading about how privileged Aria and warrior Perry banish their initial misconceptions about one another. CINDER by Marissa Meyer (also releases Jan. 3). Cyborg Cinderella! Cinder is an ingenius, sympathetic, much-put-upon heroine. I love fairy tale adaptations and I’m totally intrigued to see where the Lunar Chronicles goes next. ARTICLE 5 by Kristen Simmons (releases Jan. 31). A gripping, unputdownable dystopian about a world governed by morality police and increasingly strict morality statutes. The plot is high-stakes but it never sacrifices character. FOR DARKNESS SHOWS THE STARS by Diana Peterfreund (June 12). A post-apocalyptic retelling of Jane Austen’s PERSUASION, it features all-new, wonderfully complex world-building but retains the bittersweet romance (and incorporates...

Reading Stats & Best of 2011

I love lists (making them and reading other people’s), and I am perpetually curious about what other people are reading, so I cherish this week between Christmas and New Year’s when everyone’s making Best of — lists. Here are my reading stats for the year: Reading goal for 2011: 100 Books actually read this year: 61 (-39 from goal, -17 from last year)(Boo!)(I am vowing to do better in 2012!) Books read on e-reader: 17 (28%) Books authored by men: 2.5 (Jay Asher’s half of THE FUTURE OF US) Full manuscripts I beta-read for friends: 3 Books I read in ARC or ms form: 28 (a definite publishing-world perk!) Of those ARCs, books I subsequently bought: 11 (and I plan to buy at least 10 more, as soon as they’re released) (the others fall into the “not for me” category, alas) Percentage of books read that were YA: 95% (the...

First Kiss

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday! The Playwright and I went to Gettysburg for a few days with my family. We watched lots of Christmas movies (White Christmas is my favorite) and played highly competitive games of Qwirkle and ate too many of my mom’s sugar-cinnamon cookies. My favorite present was an ANNE OF GREEN GABLES book purse that I’m taking with me on tour. The fan favorite was a game where the last person to push a button when the light turns green gets shocked (Dad’s present to my future brother-in-law). We’re heading home tonight so I can get back to work revising Cahill Book Two. But in the meantime, Penguin is letting me share this sexy still from the BORN WICKED trailer:         What do you think? This is from one of my favorite scenes: Cate and Finn’s first kiss. I can’t wait until we...
