News

I’m currently working on a new project that I’m super excited about, and I’m hoping to have more news to share soon. In the meantime, the best place to find and connect with me online is Instagram.

Blue

I’m feeling blue today. Someone broke one of Steve’s car windows last night–the second time this month. Last time it was parked a few blocks away, and they stole his GPS and iPod. The car was parked right outside of our apartment at the time and had nothing in it to steal. It costs hundreds of dollars to fix the window, plus (since it can’t be replaced until tomorrow) ruins our plans to see a play in Georgetown tonight. I love our neighborhood, and I hate that this makes me look at people with suspicion. Who are these people, who feel so entitled to damage others’ property? It disappoints me, and it pisses me off.   The father of one of my best friends from high school passed away yesterday. Gib and I don’t keep in touch very well anymore. He doesn’t do email and he doesn’t like to talk...

Question Friday: House Edition

Wallpaper OR paint OR swirly plaster?   Porch swings OR big comfy chairs?   Guest room OR office OR combo thereof?   Hardwood floors OR carpet?   Hiring movers or DIY? Hiring cleaners or DIY?   Sleigh bed, four-poster, metal headboard, OR mod IKEA look?   (These are some of the decisions we’ve been making lately.)   Settlement is two weeks from today!

6 Things on a Saturday

1. I totally forgot to do my Question Friday yesterday! Gah! I’d like to say I was superbusy, but I spent the afternoon napping in celebration of our new summer hours. We have paid Friday afternoons off until mid-August. I’m crazy-grateful, since that gives me extra-long weekends to work on house stuff (and/or catch up on beauty sleep). 2. I am a list-making queen. Just today I made the following: To Do ASAP After We Move In, To Buy ASAP, To Buy Later, To Look for at Steve’s Parents’. (We are raiding their basement, which houses a ton of his grandparents’ old furniture. Yay for clutterbug tendencies! But just this once.)  3. I also added several items to my 30 By 30 list, including: tour embassies (since I practically hang out the window drooling every time we drive past Embassy Row), go to Portrait Gallery, go to Hirshhorn, host Thankgiving (sooo excited about this! a holiday! in my...

Summer Reading

Yay! I won THREE books this week! They are: The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams (from St. Martin’s Press)Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter by R.J. Anderson (from the author)Dull Boy by Sarah Cross (from Elizabeth Scott) I’m super-excited to get them. I’ll be adding these to the tippity-top of my TBR pile, along with Fragile Eternity, Peace Love and Baby Ducks, Pure, Wintergirls, and Tap & Gown. I am behind on my reading. I brought three books with me to the beach last weekend and didn’t touch any of them. My brain feels over-full right now with moving plans and revision plans and house-buying details. I’m having a hard time relaxing into another world, letting go my deathgrip on my to-do lists. I haven’t done any writing either. It’s making me a little grumpy, frankly. Instead I dived headfirst into a pile of magazines at the beach: Real Simple, Food & Wine, Southern Living, Glamour, and Elle. Glamour’s my guilty pleasure. Southern Living has...

Question Friday: Beach Edition

I’m going to the beach for the weekend to celebrate a friend’s 30th and I’m so excited! I haven’t been for three years. I love the beach to itsy bitsy bits. We used to go every summer when I was a kid–first to Rehoboth, then to Wildwood, with a few jaunts to the more isolated Outer Banks beaches. Steve, on the other hand, didn’t do the beach as a kid and doesn’t swim and burns rock lobster red. But he is coming anyway—in fact he’s the one driving through insane bridge traffic–because he likes mini golf and the boardwalk. In fact, he is off right now buying white wine, beach towels, hangover crackers, and sunscreen that I have specified must be the coconuty beach-smelling kind. He is a good guy like that. So, without further ado:   Pool OR ocean?   Pacific OR Atlantic OR Gulf of Mexico?   Ice cream OR boardwalk fries?  ...
