I’m currently working on a new project that I’m super excited about, and I’m hoping to have more news to share soon. In the meantime, the best place to find and connect with me online is Instagram.

I had the best birthday weekend! On Friday: Steve took me out to dinner at one of my fave Mediterranean restaurants, Cafe 8. We drank a bottle of wine and I had fantastic swordfish and falafel and flatbread. Afterward we caught up on the last two episodes of Dollhouse. And whoa, that last episode blew me away. I love how this show consistently surprises me. I am glad that I gave it another chance. On Saturday: I read and slept and cleaned in preparation for our Cupcakes & Cosmos party. And oh the cupcakes! Have a picture. Or two.           I made banana with honey-cinnamon icing. Rosaline made those gorgeous chocolate ones with swirly mint buttercream and tiny chocolate chips. Alissa made my favorite, fabulous moist chocolate cake with a very light raspberry buttercream. Joel and Steph brought me cupcakes’ "dirty cousin," Krispy Kremes. Laura and Mike...

Question Friday: Giveaway Edition

Today is Buy Indie Day, celebrating independent bookstores across the land. Sunday is my birthday. I will be 29. It occurred to me last night that I could celebrate BOTH by having a giveaway! If you answer the following questions, I’ll enter you in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to the indie bookstore of your choice or Powells.com. I’ll choose a winner tomorrow at noon. 5: List 5 books you can’t wait to read. 3: List 3 of your favorite songs. 8: List 8 things you want to do before YOUR next birthday. 0: List the worst cupcake combination you can imagine–so bad that it might negate its own existence.

Of Cupcakes & Calendars

I just looked at my Google Calendar and realized that next week is insane. I am seeing four plays this weekend: a movement-based version of Lysistrata, a group of ten-minute plays based on urban legends (including Steve’s, based on one I’ve never heard of about a Mexican sewer rat?), a provocative new play about Gone with the Wind (!) and WWII and race called Antebellum, and a family comedy, The Dining Room. Then next week I am seeing three concerts: The Kills and Blue October, and the national Poetry Out Loud competition (in which high schoolers from every state compete to recite poems). I have to admit that this is one of the hardest parts, for me, about writing. I can give up TV and time cuddling on the couch with cat and husband. I can give up sleep. But I love going out. It’s inspiring, you know? I will...

Book Meme

I saw dpeterfreund   and robinellen  did this and dorked out like only an English major can. 1) What author do you own the most books by?L.M. Montgomery. I own all the Anne and Emily books, plus The Story Girl, and I’d love to collect more. 2) What book do you own the most copies of?Gone with the Wind. I have 3: my dog-eared, falling-apart, much-loved paperback; a contemporary hardback that came in a boxed set with the (blarg) sequel; and an original edition that smells all deliciously musty. 3) What fictional character are you secretly in love with?Ooh. Seth from Wicked Lovely. Cabel from Fade and Wake. Professor Lupin. 4) What book have you read the most times in your life (excluding picture books read to children)?Gone with the Wind. I was kind of obsessed with it in high school. 5) What was your favorite book when you were...
