Top Ten Books I’ve Recently Added to my TBR (From Edelweiss)

Yay, I actually remembered to post this Top Ten Tuesday on Tuesday!  One of my favorite librarian perks is that now I get early access to e-galleys through Edelweiss! I don’t write reviews per se, but I do try to share the books I love across my social medias, with teen and tween readers at the library, and via the DCPL Twitter chat I run. (That’s #DCPLnewYA, every fourth Tuesday of the month, at 4pm. Next week we’ll be talking about December & January releases as well as the ALA Youth Media Award winners. Join us?) Anyway, here are the Top 10 spring Edelweiss e-galleys I can’t wait to get to:                                                                                ...

Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant to Get To But Didn’t

Eep, I made this Top Ten Tuesday list the other day & then forgot to hit “post” on Tuesday…or Wednesay…or Thursday…Scatterbrained author is extra scatterbrained this week! This list is easy because I read so little least year. Most of my reading was contemporary YA because that was what I was working on with WILD SWANS, and I was trying to get a feel for the pacing and character development in contemporary novels. I’m super excited to read more fantasy, historical, and magical realism again in 2016! 1. The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkowski 2. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir 3. The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh 4. Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson 5. The Rose Society by Marie Lu 6. The Conjurer’s Riddle by Andrea Cremer 7. Dreamstrider by Lindsay Smith 8. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff 9. Bone Gap...

A TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS Review Roundup

This has been an A++ week in publishing news. I’m so happy to start the New Year by sharing some awesome reviews we’ve gotten for A TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS (which comes out March 8): ★ …historical fiction at its finest…The heroines are tough and memorable and full of heart, and the concept is irresistible. Stock up–this one will practically sell itself. — Booklist (starred review) There is range and balance in tone, voice, and approach, a challenge for anthologies…Readers of historical fiction and adventure need look no further. — Kirkus …a delightful selection of historical tales…These energizing, adventurous, and occasionally somber tales will readily please fans of historical fiction. — Publishers’ Weekly I am so, so proud of this anthology! All 14 of my authors were delightful to work with, and their stories are so great, and our editors and publicist at Candlewick have been nothing but amazing. It’s truly been a highlight...

Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Bookish Resolutions for 2016

I love reading the Top Ten Tuesday posts but rarely participate. I love this week’s topic so much I couldn’t resist, though. New Year’s is one of my favorite holidays, because–as a raging perfectionist & obsessive list-maker–I love the idea of a fresh start. I always feel so inspired. Like the brilliant Annie Cardi before me, I’m going to split my resolutions into 5 each reading & writing resolutions. READING Read at least 52 books this year. One a week. I only read 29 books last year, which is the lowest ever. Granted, I was writing and editing one book (WILD SWANS), editing another (A TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS), and started an exhausting-but-awesome new job at the DC Public Library. Still. I really miss reading and the escape and inspiration it provides! Participate in the Book Riot 2016 Read Harder Challenge. My BFF and a few other friends are doing this too...

Cover Reveal: Secrets of the Eternal Rose by Fiona Paul

Hi! I’m so happy to get to reveal the stunning new covers for the Secrets of the Eternal Rose trilogy by my good friend Fiona Paul (aka Paula Stokes). Paula is one of the kindest and most generous authors I know, not to mention incredibly hard-working. Back when we were wee debut authors together, VENOM (now VENOMOUS KISS) was my first blurb. I said: Wonderfully sinister and thrillingly romantic, VENOM has it all — secret trysts in graveyards, Venetian canals, murdered courtesans, and masquerades! Fiona Paul created a lush, compelling mystery I couldn’t put down. I’m so glad that Paper Lantern Lit is re-releasing these books to help them find a new readership. Fiona/Paula: I was super-excited to hear that Paper Lantern Lit was re-releasing the Secrets of the Eternal Rose trilogy through their digital imprint The Studio. I wrote these books from 2011-2012, at the same time I was writing THE ART...
