News

I’m currently working on a new project that I’m super excited about, and I’m hoping to have more news to share soon. In the meantime, the best place to find and connect with me online is Instagram.

Fashion Friday

Here are some things that caught my fancy this week. So quirky-cute! Fossil’s Key-Per Birdcage Bag (which I may have bought today) So pink! So adorably ballerina-esque! Dancing in a Daydream Dress from Modcloth Whimsical shoes to match the dress: Field of Daisies in black by Poetic Licence And just plain whimsical. I LOVE the red ribbon laces. I’d buy these in a heartbeat if I thought I could walk in them without killing myself!  Racy Lady by Poetic License.  What about you? Anything catch your eye this week?

I ♥ Monday: SCBWI NY Edition

Yeah, I know it’s Wednesday. Work with me, people. My husband has a sinus infection, one of my roomies at SCBWI had the plague (hi, Tiffany!), and I’ve been spending most of my non-working time sleeping and eating Vitamin C drops like candy in an effort to avoid the scurvy. *makes hex sign* Ok, that and watching DOCTOR WHO (Matt Smith season). The Vincent Van Gogh episode made me cry tonight. Anyway, these are some highlights from my long weekend in NYC: ♥ Sara Zarr’s keynote on crafting a creative life was incredible. Inspiring, resonant, hilarious, and wise. I am fascinated by the idea of balance, so this was a topic near and dear to my heart. I love the idea that the most important thing is finding joy in the work, and that it is indeed possible to make a sustainable creative life, full of days of quiet productivity...

Fashion Friday

Thrice is going out on submission in February and I have decided that if/when it sells, I will splurge and buy this Betsey Johnson dress.   Modcloth has been selling a few of her dresses lately, and they’re totally out of my price range, but I love her aesthetic. It’s so fun and flirty. I heart this one. And this one, too, but OMG short. And where would I wear it? We’ve been going to Theatre Prom (aka the Helen Hayes Awards, kind of like the Tonys in DC), but unless my Bril Playwright Husband gets nominated for something…it’s a little much. Now, in the realm of things I can actually afford, I bought this Curse of the Care Were t-shirt today. What about you? Do you have a favorite if unaffordable designer? Any fun purchases lately?I promise to do an actual writing post later. I swear, I do things other...

Saturday 6

1. I am watching the Ravens game right now, even though my husband isn’t home. This brings my fandom to a new level. 2. Speaking of the bril playwright husband, he has a show going up the next two weekends at the DC Arts Center. It’s called A CRE@TION STORY FOR NAOMI, and it’s funny and interesting, a thought-provoking exploration of various creation myths and the need to stay connected in an increasingly digital world. It’s only 75 minutes long and tix are only $15. More info here. 3. I watched my first-ever episodes of Dr Who last night (the Matt Smith version). I’m smitten. The Doctor’s charming, yeah, but I think I’m most entranced by Amy Pond’s hair. 4. I just read and really, really enjoyed FIVE FLAVORS OF DUMB by Antony John. It’s about a girl who manages her high school’s dysfunctional rock band even though she’s deaf. Piper...

You Are Awesome

Internet, I think we could all do with a bit of cheer. And you know what? I think you are awesome.  Last Spring, Karen Healey encouraged her readers to comment and tell her why they are awesome. It was really fun to read the comments. I would like to offer you the same opportunity! Her idea was particularly geared toward the ladies, because many ladies have an unfortunate tendency toward self-deprecation, toward thinking we are perhaps not enough. Good enough, talented enough, thin enough, enough enough? I do that. In fact, the other day I was flipping out a little because I didn’t believe I deserved some upcoming awesome opportunities. My therapist made me tell her why I deserved a place at the table. And I had to really think about it first, because praising myself does not come naturally. Anyway, I am happy to hear why menfolk are awesome, too. But...
