I’m currently working on a new project that I’m super excited about, and I’m hoping to have more news to share soon. In the meantime, the best place to find and connect with me online is Instagram.

Christmas Party ’09

One of my favorite holiday traditions is our annual Christmas party, now in its 6th year. I love filling our house with friends and food and cheer.   This year Snowpocalypse threw a little curve into that. I was oblivious to the weather forecast until Friday morning, when my coworker told me we were expecting 10-20" and my response was OH HELL. I still went home and made Oreo Truffles and Cranberry Bliss Bars and cleaned the house, hoping in vain that the weathermen were wrong.  But then I woke up at 8:30 (unheard of, ungodly hour for a weekend!) to a winter wonderland. Snow poured down steadily all day and so did the regretful RSVPs.   But it was so pretty, I couldn’t stay disappointed. We got 20 inches of snow! I’m pretty sure that’s the most snow I’ve seen since I was 16. It was a December record for...

Question Friday: Holiday Music Edition

Eek! I feel like I’ve hit a wall. I still have to bake and wrap and write out cards, not to mention clean for our party on Saturday. But I kind of just want to lie on the couch, stare at our pretty Christmas tree, eat cookies, and read. Anyone else feel this way? It may be compounded by the whole OMG editors might be reading my book RIGHT NOW thing. Or the fact that I’ve read so many fabulous books lately. ARCs from NCTE mostly: The Body Finder, The Dark Divine, Heist Society, Scarlett Fever. I loved all four of them and I’ve got Before I Fall next.  Anyhoo, I digress. We’re putting together a new holiday-party playlist, and it has me thinking music. What are your top 3 seasonal favorites? I’d have to go with: 1. "Silent Night" (I really like Sarah McLachlan’s version) 2. "Marshmallow World" (Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra) 3. "Carol of the Bells"...

Agent Appreciation

Today is Agent Appreciation Day! No, seriously, it is. YA author Kody Keplinger made it up and Lisa and Laura Roecker have a whole list of all the writers giving thanks for their brilliant agents. My agent is Jim McCarthy at Dystel & Goderich, so I am particularly fond of these other posts praising him. I still can’t believe that I have an agent, honestly. I started querying less than three months ago, and I tried to keep my hopes realistic, and I sort of prayed that by the holidays I might have some interest. But now I have an agent who loved my book. Who was really excited to represent me. That alone means the world to me. Then last month Jim read my book again and sent me questions. Insightful, thoughtful, awesomesauce, challenging questions. They helped me edit and improve the book immensely. Look, even his boss says that...

Book Matchmaking

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m buying my friends all books for Christmas. I’m having way too much fun book-matchmaking! A paranormal romance package for Jill: The Dark Divine (I just read an ARC and I ♥ this book), Hush Hush, and Shiver For literary Austenophile Liz: Octavian Nothing, The Book Thief, and Soulless For Laura, who works with at-risk city kids: Liar and Jumped (and Candor bc it’s one of my favorites of 2009) For Alissa, who’s one of the most awesomely independent women I know: Graceling, Fire, and Beautiful Creatures For my bestie Jenn who’s writing her thesis on YA dystopias: The Maze Runner, The Knife of Never Letting Go, & Pastworld Also…my little sister loves books by Sarah Dessen and Elizabeth Scott. Contemporary, romantic. I veer more toward edgy and paranormal, so I’m having trouble coming up with stuff for her. Any suggestions on other...

Ta-Da!

You guys! I just sent my edits back to my agent! I really, really hope he likes them. I feel good about it, but I’d be happy to tweak more if he thinks it’s necessary. Of course, I would be even happier if he thinks it’s brilliant and ready to go out on submission after the holidays! But now? Now I can think about Christmas! One of the items on my to-do list for yesterday was actually make lists! That is how great my love of lists is. I needed to make a list of ideas for Christmas presents (I have bought, um, two so far); my Christmas card list; a list of decorations and party supplies to get at Target and Crate & Barrel tomorrow; a list of the things I want to bake and buy for our Christmas party next weekend; a list of things I want to...
