Thrice Interview: WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Hi! Today we’re celebrating the release of WHAT HAPPENS NEXT by Colleen Clayton. I haven’t had a chance to read this one yet, but it sounds fantastic!

How can you talk about something that you can’t remember?

Before the ski trip, Cassidy “Sid” Murphy was a cheerleader (on the bottom of the pyramid, but still…) and a straight-A student, with two of the best friends a girl could ask for.

When Sid finds herself on a ski lift with hunky local college guy, Dax Windsor, she’s thrilled. “Come to a party with me,” he tells her, but Dax isn’t what he seems. He takes everything from Sid-including a lock of her perfect red curls-and she can’t remember any of it.

After the ski trip, Sid is an insomniac and an obsessive late-night runner, unable to relate to her old friends.

Caught in a downward spiral, Sid drops her college prep classes and takes up residence in the A/V room with only Corey “The Living Stoner” Livingston for company. But as she gets to know Corey–slacker, baker, total dreamboat–Sid finds someone who truly makes her happy. Now, if only she could shake the nightmares, everything would be perfect…

Witty and poignant, Colleen Clayton’s debut is a stunning story of moving on after the unthinkable happens.

Let’s check out Colleen’s interview:

1. Describe your main character in 3 adjectives + a noun.

Sid is a sassy, strong-willed yet insecure EX-cheerleader.

2. Describe your book in 3 adjectives + a noun.

My book is a contemporary, funny, yet heartbreaking love story.

3. Describe yourself in 3 adjectives + a noun.

I am a fun, loyal and honest friend.

4. If you could travel to any 3 countries, what would they be?

There are so many places in America that I haven’t been so I’d like to travel extensively in the U.S. first…first stop: Yellowstone!  Second stop: New England!  Last stop: Alaska!  Then, I’d visit Australia…to meet my YA author friend Alyssa Brugman (who I’ve never met in Real Life…boo hoo…) and also experience all that Australia has to offer in the way of wildliving…the outback, the Great Barrier Reef, wrangling snakes and kangaroos, I’m sooo there!   Then, it’s off to the motherland: a whirlwind tour of Ireland!

5. If you could take any 3 non-writing-related classes, what would they be?

Trapeze lessons (I keep meaning to do this but for some reason, it just never seems to happen…oh, well, it sounds good in theory!)

A class that teaches obsolete skills like Morse Code, shorthand, using a slide rule, refilling a fountain pen, etc.

A “Magic Cooking Class” that magically transforms people who hate cooking into enthusiastic master chefs.

6. If you could have 3 alternate careers, what would they be?

Officer in the U.S. Military

Homicide Detective

Ghostbuster

7. What are 3 of your favorite flowers?

Honeysuckle, Lavender, and POPPIES!!! (JS: aw, I love lavender too!)

8. What are 3 of your favorite foods?

Cheese of any kind, cold coconut water, and pickled hot peppers.  (JS: You would like our house! I love cheese, and The Playwright puts jalapeno peppers on *everything*!)

9. What are 3 of your favorite books?

A FISTFUL OF FIG NEWTONS y Jean Shepherd, LETTERS TO A STRANGER (Poems) by Thomas James, and STOLEN by Lucy Christopher.

Thanks for stopping by, Colleen! I can’t wait to read your book. Hope you’re having a wonderful release week!
