STAR CURSED News

Hi! I am FULL of STAR CURSED news today!

1. Penguin Teen is giving away copies of STAR CURSED on Facebook. (You have to “like” their page to enter.)

2. Kirkus gave STAR CURSED a very positive review! Waiting for the first trade review to come can be a little nervous-making, especially so when it’s from Kirkus, which has a reputation of being a trifle harsh. I am very grateful for their review, which says things like “genuinely surprising twist” “page-turning” and “a strong sequel!” Yay!

3. The German cover for STAR CURSED (aka STERNENFLUCH) is up! It continues the German (and US) hardcover look with another photograph by Alexandra Sophie. What do you think? I think it’s gorgeous and sexy and I love it! It comes out mid-August.

4. STAR CURSED is available for review on NetGalley. You can request it here. Note: I have no idea what Penguin’s criteria for approving people is, and I let that totally up to them, so I cannot intervene on your behalf if you haven’t been approved. Sorry!

5. I got over 500 responses for my bookish social media survey! Thank you to everyone who responded. I have been so busy drafting book 3 that I haven’t compiled the responses yet, but I WILL. I’m planning some blog posts on that next week but first:

6. I’m taking a mini-vaca with The Playwright! We’re going to the Poconos and we’re going to play mini golf and go hiking and I’m going to get a massage while he goes to the casino and also we are going to read lots and play board games. We aren’t even taking our computers! I am more excited about that part than I should be. I can’t remember the last time I took a few days in a row totally off, without writing or doing promo or writing-related emails – and didn’t feel guilty about it. Maybe back at Christmas?

7. Now that I’ve finished my draft, I’m hoping to take a break to refill the well and read all the books! On my immediate TBR pile: THE LUCY VARIATIONS, THE 5TH WAVE, THE S-WORD, THE HEIRESSES, DARE YOU TO, GOING VINTAGE, NANTUCKET BLUE, and ACROSS A STAR-SWEPT SEA. What’s on yours?

  1. My TBR pile is evergrowing! Too many books to read, and some new releases that take precedence, since they're the next book on a series!

YAY for time completely unplugged, I think it's something we all need from time to time!

I'm waiting for Penguin to answer my request on NetGalley, so far I haven't got a no, so I'm crossing my fingers for a YES!

    1. I hope you get approved for SC – I can't wait to hear what you think!

I completely agree about time unplugged – I've been hideous at it lately but I think summer is the perfect time to unplug more!

This is all really exciting. I've just made a deal with a friend to send me Star Cursed in exchange for a package of British treats. But I may take my chances with the NetGalley too. As for my too read list it is SO LONG. I have been reading a lot of travel writing lately, but I think I need a novel break, so am thinking of Look at Me by Jennifer Egan (Visit from the Goon Squad was SO GOOD.) I have two Sarah Vowell books I want to read, and I have Death at Pemberley on my Kindle, and I always like Jane Austen-related fiction. Plus a book of conversations with David Foster Wallace…aaahhh so much to read! Enjoy your mini-break. I wish you guys would come to England! x

    1. Aw, I love that you made a deal with your friend to trade SC for British treats! *hugs* I wish we could come visit you too! Maybe if I sell more books this fall? Are you going to be back here any time this summer?

  3. Jess! The German cover is GORGEOUS! I so wish they would have continued this look/feel with the US hardcovers. I adore the original hardcover and am so glad I bought it when it first came out. I'm disappointed that the series won't match now, but oh well!

I am SO excited to read STAR CURSED 🙂 Congratulations on the Kirkus review!

I hope you and The Playwright have a fantastic vacation. I know it is much-needed and well-deserved 🙂 That's quite a reading list you have there! Hope you enjoy them all.

    1. Thanks, Katie! I love the German cover too. The paperback cover has grown on me but I am really happy I'll get to see all three with the "original" look too.

Thanks for all the good wishes! Our vacation was lovely, though I didn't get as much reading done as I would have liked. I never do! Alas.

Do you happen to know when the Facebook for Penguin ends. When I look at the rules that have a different book listed a Sarah Dessen book and it says the contest ends in April, so I am thinking they put the wrong rules up. I am really excited for this book I hope I win!
