I’m currently working on a new project that I’m super excited about, and I’m hoping to have more news to share soon. In the meantime, the best place to find and connect with me online is Instagram.

Six Things on a Saturday

1. I never knew people had such passionate opinions about cheese! I love it. Next time my LJ is feeling lonely, I’ll just ask for further cheese recommendations.   2. I had the best breakfast ever. Warm raspberry scone with a skim vanilla latte. Nom. Unfortunately, my writing/coffee date with Steve was made of fail. I can’t seem to draft with music, and there were loud talkers nearby (on a true coffee date, I think) and Girl Scouts peddling their adorable wares outside the big window. I’m still learning how I work, and it turns out that while I can edit very well with those kind of distractions, I can’t actually write. Instead I made a list of things I know about Em and her life. I’m having trouble getting into my cupcake book. I can’t seem to nail her voice the way I want.  Like, I just read E. Lockhart’s The Boyfriend List and I want to be best friends with Roo. She’s...

Question Friday: Cheese Edition

Oh the deliciousness. I found a recipe in the latest Food & Wine for carrot mac & cheese. I am trying it this weekend.   Smoked Mozzarella OR Gouda?   Provolone OR Swiss?   Goat cheese OR Feta?   Brie OR Cheddar?   Processed Kraft sliced cheese-food: Necessity OR abomination?   Bonus: The best cheese in all the land is _____________.

ANTM Cycle 12

Am so entertained by the various tales from Team Castle that I contemplated joining Twitter. But I already spend far too much time on the internets. But it’s tempting. But I mustn’t!   Thoughts on America’s Next Top Model (why, yes, I was very busy today):     * Are they encouraged to go batshit insane when they see Tyra, or are they really that insanely excited? * Celia on Tyra: "This woman is amazing. She’s an entity. She’s a force. She’s…extraterrestrial." *snerk* INDEED. * There are some really beautiful girls, and then there are some who…need those makeovers. Oh my. * Honestly? I think full-figured Kortnie rocks that bikini better than a lot of the skinny-minis. "Disproportionate" my ass, Mr. Jay. * Is it just me, or do a disproportionate number of these girls look like aliens? Is alien-pretty the new ugly-pretty? * I was all set to root for big-eyed, quirky Allison until she revealed...

Sunshine

I know spring doesn’t officially start for another few weeks, but it’s been so lovely outside! I had a fantastic weekend visiting my family in Pennsylvania. On Friday night I spent a few hours watching my sister S try on clothes and talk about her friends. She is so sweet and snarky; I wish I could bottle her up and put her inside a book because I’m pretty sure everyone would love her as much as I do. On Saturday I went for a long walk with my dad, my uncle, and their dogs. We walked past my grandparents’ old farm and I heard lots of stories about their boyhood shenanigans. I love those stories.    As part of my spring life makeover (in addition to going complaint-free), I’ve resolved to try and exercise every day. I am not good at doing things halfway. And while I still have to be practically pried out...

Love & Sunshine

When I was younger, I signed everything, “Love & Sunshine, Jessie.” No joke. I don’t even remember how it started. It was my signature for years. It was who I wanted to be, the image I wanted to project: happy and positive and bouncy. I was good at faking it even when I didn’t feel it. But the funny thing about faking it is that sometimes it works. I had ups and downs, unrequited crushes on boys, drama with friends, fights with my sister, but for the most part, high school and college were exceedingly good times for me.     Then I went through this long phase at the end of grad school where I was miserable and anxious. My dad was going through a divorce, I was a bridesmaid in a wedding for people I was barely speaking to, I was working full-time and volunteering at two theatres...
